Climping Beach Car Parks, in the uniquely rural setting at the Sea end of Climping Street have been refurbished by new tenants from Baird’s Farm Shop for the 2010 season which runs from 1st March to 30th September each year. They have named this renovated facility “Baird’s By the Sea”.
A new “Pay on Foot” system has been installed which will enable visitors to pay for only the time that they are on site, which is believed to be fairer than having to decide at the entrance how long you would be staying for, given that this recreational facility is very weather dependant.
These privately owned grass field Car parks have been in use for several decades, offering access to Climping Beach as well as toilet and catering facilities for visitors who pay to park here. The emphasis here is recreational in a rural, quiet, seaside area with direct access to shingle beach and sea on the south side and views across open farmland to the South Downs to the north. Children particularly love the freedom to run wild on grass and beach within easy sight of their parents.
The car parks are open from 8am until 8pm every day during the season and parking is free on Climping Street outside of these times. However, it is very important that visitors recognise the reason for the parking restrictions which is to allow emergency services access to the beach and so are asked not to block off the end of the highway for this reason.
A new initiative to create separate areas for visitors who bring their Dogs to the beach from those who don’t is working well and visitors are welcome to bring their pets over to the Toilet block and the Kiosk provided they are kept on a lead and stay on the shingle path. There is drinking water available for Dogs and provided they remain on their leads, they can sit with you if you wish while you eat your food at the picnic tables.
The menu in the new Kiosk is still evolving and customers are encouraged to let the chef know what other foods they might like to see added to the range. There are ample picnic tables outside, some with parasols for protection from sun and rain and visitors can bring their own barbeques if they wish as this is a lovely spot to relax with friends or family on a summer’s day.
All the homemade bread, rolls, cakes and meat products are directly sourced from the farm shop and there are always plenty of barbeque meats, disposable barbeques and picnic foods for sale at the farm shop, every day.
